Event description

BUSH MAMA , is director Haile Gerima’s powerful view of the realities of urban city poverty and systemic disenfranchisement as experienced by the character Dorothy, a pregnant welfare recipient living in Watts, California in the 70s. Dorothy actress Barbara O. Jones’s touching performance convincingly draws audiences into Dorothy’s fraught world. The unjust incarceration of Dorothy’s partner T.C., and the need to protect and nurture her daughter and unborn child, forces Dorothy to go through a necessary ideological transformation, from apathy to action.
