Event Details

As part of the Dream Week Celebration in San Antonio, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Alpha Alpha Xi Omega Chapter, is honored to invite youth (especially middle school-aged youth) and their families to participate in the arts programming Songs of the Civil Rights and Black Arts Movements. This outreach falls under our national theme of Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable Service. The program is an interactive session that includes a PowerPoint with YouTube links to the songs with an accompanying songbook provided to participants via email or text. The songbook has representative spirituals, gospels, and secular songs from the 1960s and 1970s with the lyrics and web links to performances, many with celebrated artists. We also have a few celebrated contemporary songs to demonstrate the work of artists inspired by the earlier movements, as in Glory, written and performed by John Legend and Common.

*To register, please send your name, address, email, cell phone number, number of participants, and number of middle school students participating with your group to aka.daniellemiles@gmail.com
