Join City Education Partners, UTSA faculty and staff, and Male Teachers of Color from partnering districts for a conversation about the needs, challenges, and opportunities to support and strengthen the teacher talent pipeline in San Antonio that elevates the representation of male teachers of color in the field and their positive impact on student’s social and educational trajectories. We will offer four panels
Panel 1: Insights into the Male Teacher of Color Experience: Urban Core Male Teachers of Color share their experiences in the classroom, the impact they have in their local school communities, innovative ideas for how we can strengthen the talent pipeline increasing the representation of Male Teachers of Color in San Antonio schools.
Panel 2: Grow-your-Own Male (GYO) Teachers of Color: University and school district faculty, staff, and high school students panel will discuss the GYO dual credit pathway leading to the teaching profession and will share their experiences in dual credit, college, and their attainment of teaching credentials. Audience will have an opportunity to identify strategies for implementing a GYO teacher pathway that promotes the recruitment of male teachers of color.
Panel 3: Cultivating Community College Male Students into the Teaching Profession: Transfer student participants share their experiences transitioning from a two-year to a four-year institution. Audience will learn about the roadblocks faced and support mechanisms/strategies provided to males of color.
Panel 4: Advanced Career Opportunities in the Education Field: Faculty and professional panel will share career opportunities in education, educational psychology, counseling, and leadership. Audience will have an opportunity to learn about various career paths with the education profession available to males of color.
