Fifty Six years ago, in the midst of the Birmingham AL movement and from a Birmingham jail cell, Dr. Martin King Jr. wrote a 7000 word open letter. Written on the margins of a newspaper, his letter was in response to another open letter written by eight clergymen criticizing the act of peaceful demonstrations. For this event several members of the San Antonio community, youth and adults, will write an open 700 word letter addressing America, Texas or San Antonio. These letters will speak to one of Dr. King’s teachings and what they think of our current status. On the evening of the event general participants will be ask to discuss and present their thoughts in 70 words. There will also be a gallery exhibit featuring these open letters. The evening will be moderated by local poet Andrea ‘Vocab’ Sanderson and a jazz fusion performance by UTSA’s Jamail Chachere & Xenobia.
