“Walk a Mile” was designed to allow local law enforcement officers and community members to switch places to see things from each other’s perspectives, and most of all, as human beings. Founder and Creator of the Walk a Mile In My Shoes program, Retired San Antonio Police Officer Troy Smith designed this day-long training program where police and the community can interact and get to know each other. Training includes a lecture series, then community members and officers participate in scenarios where the role play and switching of places occurs. Everyone who goes through the “Walk a Mile” Training is given a shirt that reads “Worthy of Respect.”
