City Council District 10, Councilman Perry’s office in collaboration with Everett Fly invites you to hear stories of African Americans on the North Side of San Antonio by exploring an African American family cemetery and reviewing a draft Archeological Report from the University of Texas San Antonio. Noted authors Doctors Daina Berry and Thomas Mitchell will be on hand for an informative discussion.
In the article, “Black Lands Matter: The Movement to Transform Heirs’ Property Laws” recently published in The Nation magazine, Dr. Mitchell discusses how Blacks and other disadvantaged people face hardships maintaining family-owned property in the United States. Dr. Daina Berry’s latest book, “The Price for Their Pound of Flesh – The Value of the Enslaved from Womb to Grave in the Building of a Nation” explores the economic value of enslaved people through every phase of life.
