African American History Fair

Event Details

This competition challenges students in grades K-12 to explore African American history by researching and embodying historical figures. Participants will be divided into three age groups:
1. Grades K-2
2. Grades 3-8
3. Grades 9-12

Competition Details:
– Students will research an influential African American figure and bring them to life through a written report and a costume-based presentation.
– Materials needed tri-fold boards, costumes or props allowance, markers, construction paper, and research templates.

Rules:
1. Written Component:
– Grades K-2: Submit a short paragraph or drawing about their chosen figure.
-Grades 3-8: Write a 1-page report detailing their figure’s contributions.
– Grades 9-12: Submit a 2-page report with historical analysis and impact.
2. Appearance Component:
– Participants must dress as their chosen figure during the presentation, explaining the figure’s significance in first person (“I am…”).
3. Each person will have 5 minutes to present.
4. Judging will focus on historical accuracy, creativity, presentation skills, and costume effort.

Prizes will be awarded to the top presentations in each age group based on creativity, engagement, and historical content.
