After Carolee: Tender and Fierce, an exhibition honoring and celebrating the artwork of the late Carolee Schneemann, curated by Annette DiMeo Carlozzi. On view in the Hudson Showroom, After Carolee: Tender and Fierce is an exploration of Schneemann’s work and the work of women artists from Texas, where her impact can be seen.
Carolee Schneemann was an influential and radical visual and performance artist whose long and successful career beginning in the 1960s significantly influenced the trajectory of contemporary art and the possibilities for women working in the cultural realms.Schneemann participated in Artpace’s International Artist-in-Residence program in spring 1999, where she created her renowned work Vesper’s Pool.
After Carolee: Tender and Fierce will be a two-fold exhibition that will explore the central ideas of Schneemann’s work, including the work she produced at Artpace and its continuing relevance for young women artists working today. The exhibition will feature the work of Amber Bemak, Kristen Cochran, Nadia Granados, Liss Lafleur, Yuliya Lanina, Beili Liu, Lovie Olivia, Paloma Mayorga, Virginia Lee Montgomery, Ayanna Jolivet Mccloud, SAINTLORRAINE, Carolee Schneemann, Megan Solis, and Julia Claire Wallace.
