Crown Heir-itage is a groundbreaking cultural fashion and hair showcase that celebrates the resilience, innovation, and beauty of people of African descent across time. This immersive live event features 15 theatrical runway scenes, each representing an iconic era from Ancient African Kingdoms to Afro-Futurism and contemporary cultural movements.
Local designers, barbers, and beauticians will collaborate in creative teams to style three distinct looks inspired by their chosen era — interpreting everything from royal regalia to protest fashion, jazz-age flair to hip hop edge. Their work will be presented in a high-stakes fashion competition judged by industry leaders.
Each fashion segment is introduced through dynamic performance art: drum circles, interpretative dance, spoken word, storytelling, and live music, with all musical performances curated to reflect the soundscape of each era. Participants include local artists, performers, and volunteers, creating a rich collaborative community experience.
This event intentionally excludes the slavery era to shift the narrative of Black history beyond trauma, centering instead on joy, power, and legacy. Our goal is to educate, empower, and preserve cultural knowledge through fashion, hair artistry, and performance.
We are submitting Crown Heir-itage as a proposed event for inclusion in DreamWeek San Antonio 2026, with the intent to inspire cultural pride, intergenerational connection, and artistic excellence. The event welcomes a diverse audience of all ages who believe in the power of art as a vehicle for historical preservation and healing.
