How do disputes between bordering governments impact the health and wellbeing of communities? Conflict between countries often results in the displacement of populations, enforcement of poverty on civilians, and the restriction of freedoms and resources. This timely panel presentation features experts in international relations, conflict and healthcare. Panelists will discuss the impact of transnational disputes on health care access and equity with a focus on unique health care dilemmas around borders. Drawing on comparisons between current U.S.-Mexico policies and border tensions and the controversial Palestine-Israel conflict, we will engage in discussion around the complexities of health care distribution, effects on public health, and the ethical responsibilities of disputing governments to provide access to health services.
