Opportunity Home serves nearly 18,000 households in San Antonio, representing 11% of the city’s rental market. With a median income of just $11,000, many of these households include children or individuals relying on fixed incomes, making them some of our most vulnerable neighbors. Unfortunately, these families often face significant challenges due to stereotypes and misconceptions about affordable housing—challenges that are further compounded by NIMBYism, or “Not in My Backyard” opposition, which can hinder necessary development and community integration.
In alignment with this year’s DreamWeek theme, “We Are Neighbor,” we invite you to join us for a panel discussion focused on how we can collectively leverage resources to combat NIMBYism and promote YIMBYism (Yes, in my backyard). Our panel will feature leaders from various sectors who will share insights and strategies for breaking down these barriers, dispelling myths, and fostering inclusive communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
