Event Details

Join Dr. Reggie Scott Young, author, scholar and editor along with other leaders for a community conversation centered around the mission and values of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This socratic seminar is hosted at BiblioTech East during DreamWeek 2024 themed Compassion Drive. All are invited to participate in this powerful conversation on the following prompts:
In the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous I Have a Dream speech (1963), he is quoted saying “I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed — we hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal.”
Do you believe that we as a nation have fulfilled the Reverend Dr. King’s dream to its fullest? If not, what can we do to ensure that our community takes charge of being a positive change?
What does it mean to be created equal? How do we measure that? Who is included in that dream, who is being excluded?
What challenges do we face to live out the Rev. Dr. King’s dream? How can we overcome them?
What can we learn about the Rev. Dr. King’s dream?
What values does MLK’s dream teach?
How can we implement the Rev. Dr. King’s dream into our daily approach?
