Event Details

Come to the Carlos Alvarez Studio Theater for a drink and conversation. The DreamPanel Series brings together 5 evenings of speakers at the Tobin Center, with the intention of stimulating conversations related to important topics that impact our community.

Mary Ullmann Japhet- Moderator

Storytelling with intent and purpose is the thread that runs through Mary Ullmann Japhet’s career as a communications professional, and she tells those stories with enthusiasm and passion.

The owner and founder of Japhet Media, Mary provides public relations, media training and video and audio production services for companies, non-profit organizations, and individual leaders. Previously, Mary spent 18 years as the Senior Vice President, Communications & Community Engagement for San Antonio Sports, the local sports commission, telling the stories of premier sporting events like NCAA Final Fours and life-changing youth sports programs and helping the organization generate more than $852 million in economic impact. She is a former television news reporter, anchor, and producer, having worked in San Antonio and Los Angeles. Mary was the 2019-2020 Trinity University Entrepreneur in Residence, teaching and mentoring students who wish to start their own businesses.

Darlene Dorsey

Darlene Dorsey is a former broadcast news reporter who has worked in San Antonio, Milwaukee and Beaumont, TX. Darlene enjoyed the challenges of covering breaking news in education, criminal justice and severe weather events, such as hurricanes. In 2018, Darlene began working with the City of San Antonio Public Works Department serving as a Senior Public Information Officer helping to promote major construction projects including the Phil Hardberger Park land bridge project. Darlene has also helped with promotion of the City’s underground San Antonio River Tunnel System which helps to prevent flooding downtown in the San Antonio River Walk area which attractions millions of visitors each year.
Darlene is married with two children and three dogs. She enjoys reading, painting, hiking and music.

Leigh Munsil

Leigh Munsil is the editor-in-chief of the San Antonio Report, succeeding founder Robert Rivard.

Munsil has held staff writer, reporter and editor positions with The Dallas Morning News, POLITICO, The Blaze, and CNN Politics, and most recently was editor of CNN’s The Point with Chris Cillizza in Washington.

Munsil holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communication from Arizona State University, where she also studied Spanish and served as editor-in-chief of the university’s daily newspaper, The State Press.

Elaine Ayala

Elaine Ayala is a Metro columnist for the San Antonio Express-News. A newspaper journalist for more than 40 years, she has held a variety of journalism jobs, including news reporter, features editor, blogger and editorial page editor. She has worked for six metropolitan dailies — the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, the Arizona Daily Star, The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer, the Austin American-Statesman, El Paso Times and the Express-News, where she has worked since 1996.

Her Metro column appears on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays on Page 2 of the Express-News. She covers San Antonio and Bexar County with special focus on communities of color, demographic change, Latino politics, migration, education and arts and culture.
