Event Details
Led by professors of journalism, political science, and race, the Media and Integrity Forum takes San Antonio case studies of how big money special interest used local media to malign minority politicians. The forum also takes a look back at language used to describe minorities leaders such as the “Gang of Four” who did not bow down to the business establishment’s policy positions and spoke truth to power. The audience willl also be shown case studies where the FBI and other law enforcement allegations were mentioned in media to smear elected officials who fought the white business establishment’s political agenda in Texas. The forum also looks at media incorrectly attributing the location of crimes as being on the Eastside, when the crime did not occur on the Eastside. This constant mis-information led local San Antonians to create the “Take Pride In the Eastside” festival to combat negative images of the historically black community in San Antonio. The Media Integrity and Responsibility Forum will also dissect patterns in local
San Antonio media including:
* What the press doesn’t talk about and
* How minority elected officials and minority issues are placed in the lowest circulation day of the newspaper as a way to down play their reach and significance
* Recent Case studies that smeared minorities and were never corrected after allegations proved false
