Event Details

Sponsored by the San Antonio Area Foundation, African American Fund and the San Antonio Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., this event is designed to build awareness of the “pushout” concept and how zero tolerance school discipline policies perpetuate the exit of children of color at an alarming rate. The documentary PUSHOUT: The criminalization of Black Girls in Schools will serve as the backdrop as we explore local Independent School District’s discipline policies and practices, and expulsion data. Although the documentary focuses on black girls, children of color in general receive more exclusionary discipline than their white peers. Local educational leaders, elected officials and judicial representatives will discuss the current challenges and engage the community to help build and implement strategies to counter “push out”. Join us for an engaging and critical conversation as we move from our community from awareness to action.
