Event Details

To celebrate Dream Week 2020, Las Palmas Branch Library and the  YWCA Olga Madrid Center are hosting Dr. Enrique Alemán, Jr., Professor and Chair in the Department of Educational Leadership & Policy Studies at UTSA. He is the producer and writer of the documentary Stolen Education. The film exposes how Mexican-American farmworker school children were discriminated in Texas schools in the 1950s. The film echoes themes in Brown v. Board of Education (1954), with politics, racism, oppression, and the denial of equitable education. With the assistance of the American G.I. Forum, the children and families challenged the system in Hernandez v. Driscoll Consolidated Independent School District (1957). Come learn how the case was resolved in Dr. Alemán’s talk and screening of Stolen Education.
