In the tradition of Chicana/o artists, the characters in Jesús Alonzo’s play The After-Life live in nepantla, a Nahuatl word meaning “in the middle.” The After-Life stories are set in San Antonio and South Texas to reflect Alonzo’s love for home, featuring characters who are Latinx, multi-racial, queer, bilingual/biliterate, and cross-cultural, and who encompass varying degrees of education. Known for fearless, bold, audacious theatre, Teatro Audaz presents this performance in honor of a fearless, bold, audacious artist: Chuck Ramirez, whose work is also on view at the McNay Art Museum.
